Dangerous Scottsdale Intersection for Car Accidents – Pinnacle Peak Road and Pima Road
The offices of Scottsdale Injury Lawyers are located at 8700 E. Pinnacle Peak Road. This address is located on the Northwest corner of the intersection of Pinnacle Peak Road and Pima Road. During the time the firm has been located here, several serious motor vehicle accidents have occurred at this intersection. Pictured below is the intersection in both map and satellite view from Google Maps.
On April 8, 2020, another serious motor vehicle crash happened at this intersection. The crash was a two-car collision. The impact was at a high rate of speed causing serious damage to both vehicles. Due to the severity of the crash, paramedics and police were called to the scene. It appears the drivers and passengers of the vehicles sustained injuries from the crash. The intersection was closed down while crews cleaned up debris and documented the crash.
The car accident was between a Volkswagen sedan and a Honda minivan. The front of the Honda minivan came into contact with the front right corner of the Volkswagen. The airbags in both vehicles deployed as a result of the significant impact. Below are photographs of the vehicles shortly after the impact. They show the significant forces the crash created and resulting damage.
The Three Most Common Causes of Intersection Car Accidents
There are several ways an intersection accident may occur. However, the three most common causes of intersection car accidents are as follows:
- Failure to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic.
- Failure to obey a traffic signal—running through a red light.
- Failing to stop a vehicle when approaching an intersection.
Failing to yield the right of way at an intersection can lead to a serious car accident. The failure to yield can occur in several ways. For example, it may occur when a vehicle is waiting to turn left against a green light, not a green arrow. Under these circumstances, the turning driver has the obligation to wait for oncoming traffic and only attempt the turn after traffic clears and it is safe to do so.
The picture below shows the intersection of Pinnacle Peak Road and Pima Road. The picture has the turning driver’s movements highlighted by a green arrow. You can see from the picture, that the driver who attempts to complete this left turn must wait until all oncoming traffic has passed and cleared. However, situations arise where the driver awaiting to make the left turn cannot see all vehicles in all lanes of traffic. For example, there could be a large vehicle in the lane closest to the turning driver that obstructs a smaller vehicle that is trailing in an adjacent lane. If the turning driver does not see that trailing vehicle and attempts the turn when the first vehicle clears (mistakenly believing it is safe to do so), a major impact could result.
Likewise, a driver who is attempting to turn right on a red light, has the duty to wait to make sure there is no oncoming traffic. Only then can the driver execute the turn. If a driver attempts the turn when it is not safe to do so he can cause an intersection accident.
Drivers also have an obligation to obey traffic signals. If a driver proceeds through a red light, he can cause a major intersection collision. This is another frequent cause of intersection car accidents.
Finally, if a driver fails to bring his vehicle to a stop at an intersection, he could cause a major rear-end impact. This can happen in one of two ways. If the driver simply neglects to brake, he can rear end vehicles stopped at the intersection waiting for a red light. Likewise, if the driver believes that the driver before him is going to proceed through a yellow light and he intends to follow, but the first driver instead brakes, a major rear-end collision will likely result.
