Car Accident Attorney at Scottsdale Injury Lawyers Hired by Victim of Drunk-Driving Car Accident

Earlier this week, car accident attorney, Tony Piccuta, from Scottsdale Injury Lawyers was hired to represent a new client in a car accident case. The client was hit by a drunk driver in Scottsdale last month. Specifically, the client was rear-ended at a high rate of speed when the drunk driver failed to brake in time to avoid the collision. As a result, the client suffered serious injuries.

The client was driving South on 56th Street in Scottsdale. The client brought his vehicle to a complete stop at a red light at the intersection of E. Lone Mountain Road and 56th Street. The client was then rear-ended at a high rate of speed from behind.

The client was driving a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. The drunk-driver, who caused the crash, was in a later model Toyota Highlander. The posted speed limit on 56th Street, where the car accident occurred, is 35 miles per hour. The investigating police officer estimated that the drunk driver was travelling 45 miles per hour. The client believes that the drunk driver was travelling even faster than that.

The client did not hear any signs of braking prior to impact. This indicates that the drunk driver did not apply her brakes at all. The 2012 Hyundai Elantra driven by the client is approximately 2600 pounds. The Toyota Highlander is approximately 4400 pounds. The impact caused great force due to the high speed of the drunk driver’s vehicle and the weight of the vehicle. The resulting damage to the client’s vehicle was severe.

The Client’s Vehicle Sustained Significant Damage Due to the Forces In the Crash

When someone is driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs they are impaired. This impairment results in a slowing processing. This often causes a delay in reaction time which prevents a driver from safely operating his or her vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, alcohol and other drugs that cause impairment are associated with 40% of all fatal car accidents.

The client was lucky he was not killed. Unfortunately, the client did suffer a mild traumatic brain injury and spinal injury as a result of the crash. The client has experienced balance and auditory issues since the crash. The client is being evaluated neurologically and has been prescribed physical therapy for his spinal injury.
